First Swimming Lesson

Today Isabelle had her first swimming lesson. She did pretty well considering today was her third time in the pool. The class started with a welcome song. The first part of the lesson was learning the "ready go" queue and preparing the babies to go underwater. The instructor had us sit on the steps of the pool while holding our babies. Then we were told to say "ready go", blow a puff of air around the nose and mouth of our baby, and then squeeze a sponge on top of their head so they get used to the idea of getting their head and face wet.

The second part of the lesson was learning different techniques in holding our baby so they learn how to float on their backs. Isabelle didn't like that too much and started to cry. The third part of the lesson was (while holding our baby) sitting them on the edge of the pool, saying "ready go", blow a puff of air, and then dipping our baby into the water up to the chin. The last part of the lesson was singing "The wheels on the bus" and moving our baby in/out of the water for different parts of the song. Finally, we sang the "Goodbye" song and the lesson was over.

For a half-hour class Isabelle and I learned a lot. Overall, I think Isabelle enjoyed it. She didn't fuss too much (except for when she was in the locker room getting in/out of her swimsuit). I am happy we signed up for lessons because it gives us something different to do during the week. Next week, Isabelle will go underwater for the first time. YIKES!
