Classes

Today Damien and I had our first child education class. It was an all day event because it was a combined class about baby care and breastfeeding. It was a full class of expectant couples. The instructor re-inforced what we already learned from Dr. Karp's Happiest Baby on the Block. We learned about newborns and what to expect to see during the first couple of days/weeks. There was discussion about safety, sleeping, how to bathe a newborn, and preventing SIDS. The breastfeeding portion talked about the anatomy of the breast, the different stages of breastmilk, how many times a day a newborn will feed and what the output should be, watching for feeding cues from the newborn, positions for breastfeeding, and lactation support in the hospital and outside the hospital. All in all it was an informative day. I think we came out of the class a little more knowledgeable about the two subjects.
